Acupuncture can be used as a treatment for fertility challenges...
It has also been shown to improve the success rate of modern day fertility treatments. As a stand alone treatment acupuncture is most effective in treating functional issues such as irregular periods or ovulation rather than structural problems such as a blockage in the fallopian tubes. Acupuncture works by balancing the body’s energy flow (qi) which in turn regulates the bodies systems and allows them to function smoothly. Studies have shown acupuncture to increase blood flow to the uterus, reduce stress hormones that can interfere with ovulation, regulate menstruation and ovulation, and improve pregnancy rates in women undergoing IVF. In an American study, 51% of women receiving acupuncture with IVF became pregnant as opposed to 36% of women receiving IVF alone.

Acupuncture is a safe form of support for pregnant women...
Whether you use acupuncture to help relax and de-stress or for particular conditions or symptoms, it is a wonderful complement to the medical care that you receive throughout your pregnancy. Some of the conditions acupuncture has been shown to help during pregnancy and postpartum:

MORNING SICKNESS
FATIGUE
HEADACHES
HEARTBURN
HEMROIDS
EDEMA
BLOOD PRESSURE
ANXIETY & DEPRESINSUFICIANT PRODUCTION OF BREAST MILK.
BACKACHE & SCIATICA
PUBIC & JOINT PAIN
CARPAL TUNNEL
BREECH PRESENTAION
DELAYED LABOR
PAIN & NUMBNESS AROUND C-SECTION SCAR
MENSTRUAL IRREGULARITIES AFTER GIVING BIRTH

Very thin, sterile needles are inserted into specific points to redirect, build and disperse blocked qi (vital energy). When qi is sufficient and flowing smoothly all body systems can function optimally. The body is constantly changing during pregnancy. Acupuncture can help to ease the process for mother and baby.

Acupuncture and Menstrual Irregularities including PMS...
A woman’s menstrual cycle is a good indicator of her general health. PMS and irregular menstruation are early signs of potentially serious reproductive system disorders such as endometriosis, fibroids, cysts and infertility. PMS can disrupt a woman’s life in many ways including her relationships, self esteem, work productivity, exercise routine, sleep and the way she feels about her own body. Month after month millions of women suffer unnecessarily with symptoms that could be eliminated or reduced with acupuncture and lifestyle changes. Acupuncture is a natural, low cost form of treatment with virtually no side effects. PMS is not a normal monthly occurrence as many women accept it to be.

Recent studies indicate that chiropractic care can help women struggling with infertility...
This is especially true for women diagnosed with “unexplained infertility”. The nerves that supply our reproductive organs are located in the lower portion of our back and sacrum. When biomechanical and structural stresses apply pressure to these nerves, they may no longer function at 100%. Interference with these nerve impulses can result in reduced function or overstimulation of the associated organs and tissues, resulting in symptoms. These symptoms can vary from pain, to spasm, to dysfunction of an organ or organ system. Many chiropractic patients have sought care for a low back or pelvic condition and found themselves pregnant! The average patient seeking care for infertility can expect to see positive changes in 3-4 months. This includes improvement in hormone levels, endometrial thickening, and normalization of luteal phases. Chiropractic care can be safely added to any existing fertility treatments.

Call

Prenatal Chiropractic...
During pregnancy, a woman's center of gravity almost immediately begins to shift forward to the front of her pelvis. Although a woman's sacrum-or posterior section of the pelvis-has enough depth to enable her to carry a baby, the displaced weight still increases the stress on her joints. As the baby grows in size, the woman's weight is projected even farther forward, and the curvature of her lower back is increased, placing extra stress on the spinal disks. In compensation, the normal curvature of the upper spine increases, as well.

Chiropractic care during pregnancy not only can help you to stay more comfortable, but can also help to facilitate your birth. Chiropractic care during pregnancy has been shown to significantly reduce the length of time a woman labors. First time moms averaged a 24% shorter labor, while mothers who have already given birth experienced a 39% reduction in the average labor length, compared to controls. Chiropractic adjustments during pregnancy can also reduce the likelihood of experiencing back labor. Regular chiropractic adjustments can safely continue up until the time of birth.

Prenatal Chiropractic Care Can...
* Reduce symptoms associated with pregnancy: low back pain, sciatic pain, headaches, heartburn and constipation, hormonal and emotional changes, breech presentation
* Correct vertebral misalignment and relieve pressure with gentle and effective adjustments
* Help ensure that pelvic bones are properly aligned, facilitating a quicker, easier delivery
* Re-establish the natural position and mobility of the joints
* Provide freedom from interference of normal nerve energy which is vital for the development of a healthy baby and mother

Chiropractic manipulation is safe for the pregnant woman and her baby and can be especially attractive to those who are trying to avoid medications in treating their pain.

Postnatal Chiropractic...
Chiropractic care can also help after childbirth. In the eight weeks following labor and delivery, the ligaments that loosened during pregnancy begin to tighten up again. Ideally, joint problems brought on during pregnancy from improper lifting or reaching should be treated before the ligaments return to their pre-pregnancy state-to prevent muscle tension, headaches, rib discomfort, and shoulder problems.

Women’s Health...
Women have found a great many benefits from chiropractic care. Chiropractic patients experience a reduction in premenstrual symptoms including cramping, bloating, low back pain, headache, and fatigue. Improvements in nervous system function also help regulate the digestive system. Chiropractic patients previously diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome have seen a reduction or resolution of their symptoms. In the United States, nearly 60% of chiropractic patients are female. Women especially are taking advantage of natural chiropractic care to help improve their immune system, regulate hormones, manage stress, improve their spinal mobility and overall health

Doula is a Greek word meaning "woman helping woman." A doula who takes care of a woman in labor is a "mother to the mother", helping her emotionally throughout childbirth. Giving birth to a baby is so much more than just a physical process; it engages the couple in a transformational experience. It is a key life event that is full of meaning and emotion. A doula also provides support and suggestions for couples that can enhance their experience of the birth.

Call

A Doula does not take the place of dad, husband or partner; as a doula our goal is to get them more involved in the labor and birth while relieving the pressure for them to know exactly what to do.

A Doula offers many benefits to the Father or partner as well...
... Increase in father’s/partner’s confidence levels and decrease in stress
... Alleviation of anxiety by serving as a resource for answering questions, offering suggestions and encouragement
... Facilitating fuller participation in the birth by the father/partner
... Filling in for the father/partner when they need to take a break
... Being there to allow someone to accompany the infant during the first medical assessments while knowing Mom is also being supported
... The emotional relief that comes with knowing you are not alone in the supportive role

After Childbirth
After pregnancy many women struggle to get their body back. During pregnancy and birth, muscles and bones take on new shapes in response to your baby's growth and your experience of labor. For instance, the hips and ribs expand and the abdominal muscles move towards the sides of your belly.

After pregnancy, Rolfing reorganizes the body, immediately enhancing structural balance. By educating your muscles and organs back into place and shifting your total body back into alignment, Rolfing accelerates the process of restoring your body to its pre-pregnancy shape. Healing the Postpartum Belly Manual techniques for split abdominals Allison's sessions utilize gentle and comfortable techniques that help 're-stitch' the addomen back together after pregnancy and birth.

Allison teaches women these techniques so they can continue to work on their own bellies accelerating the process of bringing the abdominals back to center. This work applies to severe 'split' cases but also general cases where women are unhappy with the state of their belly or the rate at which the abdominal tone is coming back together. What are separated abs? A common condition known as diastasis recti, separated abs are often left undiagnosed. Separated Abs can lead to lower back pain, poor and painful posture, and the dreaded "Mummy Tummy" because the ab muscles are unable to do their job.
