Plugged Ducts

Plugged Ducts

mother breastfeedingPlugged ducts are a firm area of the breast that happens when babies do not drain the breast well with nursing for a shorter period or mother's get off schedule. They can also be caused from an improper drainage of the breast with a shallow latch technique creating painful nursing impairing the milk ejection reflex. They typically resolve within 48hrs with heat, massage and regular nursing on that breast first. If they remain, you should see your HCP for an evaluation. An evaluation of your latch or to go over how to prevent this from happening would be beneficial.
